Tesla Motors is now letting drivers order its popular Model X all-electric SUV, which starts at $81,200.
The base price for the long-range crossover is $80,000, put it goes up with the added delivery charge of $1,200, . The electric automaker released the vehicle's price Monday along with a "configurator" for those who have ordered to let them pick their options.
The move follows two months after Tesla sold a handful of Model Xs at an introductory price of $132,000 from its factory in Fremont, Calif. Features include all-wheel-drive, a 90-kilowatt-hour battery pack and rear doors that open upward so that they avoid scraping against a car parked next to it.
The 70D variant of the Model X comes with an estimated range of 220 miles, while the 90D has a 257-mile range and the P90D has a 250-mile range, . All of the Model S variants have longer ranges in comparison, which include 240 miles for the 70D, 270 miles for the 90D, and 253 miles for the P90D.
The Model X 70D can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds, the 90D can do the same in 4.8 seconds, and the P90D can do so in 3.8 seconds. This is slightly slower compared to the Model S, with the 70D being able to go from zero to 60 in 5.2 seconds, and the 90D and P90D designed to do the same in 4.2 seconds and 3.1 seconds, respectively.
The electric SUV is eligible for federal tax incentives of up to $7,500, and California is among several states that are also offering incentives, with the Golden State providing up to $2,500, USA Today reported. Tesla said that the vehicle's price drops to $62,200, including destination charges, when an estimated $9,000 in gasoline saved over five years is considered.
P90D customers can also get the optional "Ludicrous mode" performance option to shave its top speed down to 3.2 seconds, according to Green Car Reports. While the standard Model X seats five people, customers can add a sixth seat for $3,000 and a seventh for $4,000.
Tesla said on its website that those who order the Model X 70D won't receive it until late next year, so those who want the crossover sooner should order the 90D or P90D, which will be delivered starting in early 2016.
