Car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz pulls out TV commercial that suggests that its new 2017 E-Class car has more capabilities. The ad which features 2017 E-class car along with totally self-driven F015 comes with a voiceover that "Is the world truly ready for a vehicle that can drive itself? Ready or not, the future is here."
The ad shows a car driver with lifted hands and a warning at the bottom that says "Vehicle cannot drive itself, but has automated driving features. The system will remind the driver frequently to keep hands on the steering wheel. Always observe safe driving practices and obey all road traffic regulations."
Forbes reports that groups such as Consumer Reports and Center for Auto Safety urge the Federal Trade Commission to take necessary actions against the misleading ad. They said that this advertisement by Mercedes creates "a false sense of security in the ability of the car to operate anonymously."
Spokesperson from the brand said that they took the ad from its TV spot and removed the same from their YouTube page. Mercedes claims that they did not want to create confusion neither they want to detract from the giant step forward in vehicle safety which the 2017 E-class represents. They add that their new 2017 E-Class is their brand's significant step towards the vision of attaining accident-free future.
