A few weeks ago, we got a very good look even in heavy camouflage of what appeared to be the new Toyota Supra along the streets of Germany. Now the guys at SupraMKV.com released a video of the Toyota Supra testing outside the BMW M Test Center at the Nurburgring. The vehicle's looks are still the same as the previous photos but the sound of the engine is a must-hear, as it hints that the new Supra will probably be a hybrid.
A Hybrid 2018 Toyota Supra?
The Toyota Supra is one of the most iconic sports cars Toyota ever built. Now in collaboration with BMW, it is not surprising that it will probably get a hybrid treatment as more and more sports cars in the industry are being electrified too.
While Toyota is throwing balls out, keeping it calm and prefer not to divert attention at the new Toyota Supra as all of the Japanese car manufacturer's efforts are focused on its most promising launch in the Toyota C-HR, we know that behind the scenes they are working to create a great masterpiece. And that is precisely what the spy video shows. An awesome looking Supra that looks and sounds great. But something sounds different on the engine.
One can hear clearly on the video that when the driver steps on the accelerator, a roar that is well fitting for a V6 engine can be heard. It's like Nissan GT-R V6 without the raspiness, but it also has a whirring sound that strikes us as an electric motor. Check out the video below and hear for yourself.
Alliance with BMW
Toyota and BMW have been strategic allies for the use of different technologies , and now we will again see this through the 2018 Toyota Supra. The Toyota will reportedly share underpinnings with the BMW Z5 - a roadster that didn't do that well in the market after it replaced the Z4, a car which quietly bid the auto world goodbye last August.
The Toyota Supra will differ in aesthetic, though, and it is even expected that Toyota will make the new sports car longer than the BMW Z5. The vehicles are very likely also differ technically, especially if Toyota is committed to its hybrid technologies.
Now we can only wait and try to cope with impatience as the Supra is only expected to go on sale in either . It is not easy to wait, especially if the appearance of the new Supra as so good as seen in the spy video. And with the hybrid technology hint, it only adds to our excitement.
