The Tesla Model 3 is expected to launch later this year. It will feature a different battery and is supposed to have a unique high-end model.

reported that the Silicon Valley electric vehicle manufacturer will start to make pre-production models of its Model 3 Sedan in a few weeks. Some reports have even set this date to be Feb. 20.

The Model 3 will be launched at a party some time at the end of the year. The company aims to fulfill pre-orders from then through 2018. The pre-order released in March of 2016 wherein customers had to put $1,000 for a two-year wait period for the new electric vehicle.

However, the report goes on to say that maybe Tesla will launch the Model 3 late. Previously, the car manufacturer was three years late with its last vehicle, the Model X SUV. Many speculate that the Model 3 will also suffer similar delay. The Model X proved to be a very troubling car to produce for Elon Musk and his team.

Additionally, the company is also hard at work their self-driving tech efforts. Musk, the company's CEO, has already announced that he expects to achieve fully autonomous vehicles by the end of the year. However, it was reported that the Model 3 will be easier to build than the Model X and Model S due to its steel construction.

Several situations could arise. First, Tesla can fulfill both promises by the end of the year and will launch both the Model 3 and will achieve fully-self-driving EVs as well. Another possibility is the company will focus on the self-driving technology, and the Model 3 gets pushed back to a later date. There is also the possibility that the Model 3 will launch on time and self-driving technology will get pushed back to a later date. And finally, the last option is the company won't be able to fulfill any of their promises this year. The last scenario is the most unlikely considering how hard the company has been working.

In a previous report, the world learned that the Tesla Model 3 will not be using the same battery as the Model S and Model X. It is projected to use a 60 kWh battery, unlike the 100 kWh battery of the other models. This is because the Model 3 will be structurally smaller than the other cars.

Lastly, has reported that the company could also release a Model 3 range topper similar to the Model S P100D. The website has made a bit of a stretch with this theory which stemmed from a made by Elon Musk that the Model 3 will not go about 100 kWh. They inferred that perhaps the Model 3 could have another variant with a battery larger than 60 kWh but smaller than 100 kWh.
