Despite these requirements, McLaren confirmed that all the 106 units of the BP23 are already sold out before it was even announced to the public. Motoring experts were not surprised at this development. After all, many McLaren enthusiasts have been clamoring for a spiritual successor to the McLaren F1 for many years now.

During this year's Geneva Auto Show, McLaren chief executive officer Mike Flewitt said, "Almost from the day I started I've been asked: 'Why don't you do another three-seater?'"

Flewitt said that the BP23 will not be a replacement to the F1, this honor has been bestowed to the P1 hypercar. Nevertheless, Flewitt added, the BP23 will be a homage to the classic car, according to .

According to , the automaker claims that the McLaren BP23 will be the most powerful and aerodynamic car to be ever rolled out of its facility. Despite this promise of massive power, the BP23 will not be a track beast. Instead, McLaren is poised to brand the hypercar as a grand tourer, a car that combines unrivaled comfort and luxury with long distance tours.

The official specs list of the McLaren BP23 is still unknown. The BP23 moniker is just an internal codename, and many agree that the company will give the upcoming hypercar a suitable name in the future.
