The 2017 New York Auto Show has been placed in between the mother of all auto shows Geneva Motor Show and the Beijing and Shanghai Auto Shows. That's why a number of manufacturers are trying to decide which one to showcase their work of art. But that doesn't mean that the NY show didn't have critical debuts and concept cars. It is still one of the most significant shows in the automotive industry.
We listed the must-see SUVs and a few show stealers during the event at the Big Apple. But let's admit that we all know the Demon took center stage during the auto show's annual preview at the NY waterfront private event.
2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. This 840-horsepower muscle car is the first ever street-legal factory-built model to be certified by the Guinness Book of World Records to do a wheelie. The Demon is set to replace the automaker's Viper as their flagship vehicle.
2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The vehicle that fell into both of the hottest themes in the industry: SUVs and muscle cars. As the most powerful SUV ever to slip out of the factory, this 707-horsepower brute is set to sprint a 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds from a standstill and its quarter-mile run is only 11.6 seconds topping at speeds 116 mph. This is all thanks to the Hellcat's engine.
Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and GLC 63 S. Two brutally fast SUVs were also presented by Mercedes at the 2017 New York Auto Show. The GLC 63 puts out 469 bhp thanks to its 4.0-liter Biturbo V8, while the S version has an extra kick with 503 bhp. It's a sportier take on the brand's SUVs.
Toyota FT4X. While still being a concept, the company noted that this "" does come with AWD. In fact, its styling has been inspired by chunky outdoor equipment and is a tribute to the early and rugged days of the Land Cruisers. The FT4X stands for "Future Toyota Four-Wheel Drive" and has been designed as a vehicle small enough for the city but capable enough for an adventure.
2018 Lincoln Navigator. This is the company's first ever big redesign of their SUV in more than 10 years. The Navigator sports an all-aluminum body, a posh and new interior, and of course a turbocharged engine. To top that off, Lincoln will include 8 hours worth of its for every Navigator.
Hyundai Genesis GV80. The company finally unveils an SUV concept powered by a plug-in hydrogen fuel cell under the Genesis Luxury brand. This is built on the brand's "Athletic Elegance" direction, utilizing a criss-cross pattern on the roof pillar and the front seats.
Buick Enclave Avenir. This Avenir is a redesigned midsize SUV with a lower roofline with sharper angles for its windshield. Also, it sports a longer wheelbase, giving it a most aerodynamic look.
Range Rover Velar. Let's not forget Geneva's scene-stealer. The Velar finally made it to US shores and is meant to fill the gap left by the Evoque and Sport. Also, buyers are treated to 6 different engine options.
These are among the hottest SUVs and a few scene stealers at the 2017 New York Auto Show. Up next will be the Shanghai Auto Show. There will still be another set of hot unveiling and debuts during that event. So stay tuned for more updates.
