Apple CEO Tim Cook finally spoke up and confirmed their plans on autonomous cars. Apparently, Apple Inc. is all eyes on autonomous systems. However, other reports seem to prove otherwise.
In an interview with , Cook said, "We're focusing on autonomous systems." He also added that "It's a core technology that we view as very important." From this statement, it seems that the technology giant is not rushing to manufacture a self-driving car model.
Cook emphasized how they extremely value the technology behind self-driving cars. He even labels this technology as "the mother of all AI projects." This seems to eradicate the rumors that have been circulating on Apple's alleged plan to manufacture driverless cars.
Even though Cook revealed that the technology is their main focus, speculations on the possibility of manufacturing its own self-driving cars continue to flourish as it may not be far from becoming a reality. In the same interview, Cook also teased, "We'll see where it takes us." This statement seems to strengthen the speculations that Apple will most likely launch its own self-driving car.
It can be recalled that Apple has acquired a permit to test autonomous vehicles from the California Department of Motor Vehicles last April. It has also been that the Cupertino-based company features a steering wheel and pedals on its autonomous driving system.
Apple Inc. has also been reported to be secretly working on its own autonomous car, which was known as Project Titan. The company has allegedly employed more than 1,000 engineers to participate in this project that began in 2014.
Meanwhile, Cook has also mentioned something that may sound contrary to the speculations. The CEO seems to not confirm to produce its own autonomous vehicle by saying, "We're not really saying from a product point of view what we will do."
It remains to be seen if Apple will eventually produce its own autonomous vehicle. As for now, the CEO has only confirmed to be busy developing the technology.
